First Response to Data Request – Chief Lawson

Dear Mr. LeDuc,

Thank you for contacting me this week.  After reading your message and carefully considering all that you shared, I want you to know that I and many others at Wake Forest believe this is a conversation in which all of us at Wake Forest can participate.  And, we look forward to doing just that.

I hope that you will partner with us at Wake Forest in considering these issues.  We are already taking steps, as you know.  Just this week, we had our first visit from independent investigators Willie Williams and Tom Moss. They met individually with students April 21 and 22 and will return for more meetings with students April 28 and 29.  Furthermore, the investigative team will review Internal Affairs complaints filed in the last three years.

The University will also give further consideration to the Large Venue Social Event Management Guidelines. Participants in that process will include students, as well as staff.

In regard to crime statistics, the University Police Department is gathering additional information that is not already included in the University’s annual security report.  Currently, in compliance with the Clery Act, the University has many statistics online and available to anyone to read. We intend to gather more information that is not compiled currently to assist in responding to your concerns.

I welcome the opportunity to speak with you and Erin McCulley- Davis will be contacting you to schedule a time for us to meet. Today, we had yet another Chat with the Chief lunch at Shorty’s and I had an opportunity to speak with and provide updates to the students there.  I look forward to the opportunity to meet with you.

Thanks,

RGL
